THE CHALLENGE

A mountain in motion.

Directed by Petra Kalive, Touching the Void brought Joe Simpson's remarkable survival story to the stage through an extraordinary combination of scenic design, movement and theatrical illusion.

At the centre of the production was Andrew Bailey's monumental steel mountain: an automated scenic structure that moved and revolved, transforming the stage as performers climbed and traversed its towering forms. Together with Katie Sfetkidis's evocative lighting, Darius Kedros's sound design and Xanthe Beesley's movement direction, the production created a striking sense of scale, altitude and exposure.

As Production Manager, I was responsible for coordinating the complex technical delivery and safety requirements of the production. The integration of large-scale automation, performer rigging and climbing systems, and intricate staging made this an exceptionally demanding undertaking, requiring close collaboration across the creative, technical and production teams.
